Shaking it Up: Four Slower Planets Change Signs in 2025

...and why this is kind of a big deal

In 2025, four slower planets will move into new signs in the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology. These four planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.

The Moon is the speedster in the zodiac, breezing into new signs around every two and half day, and new Nakshatras about one a day. This is followed by Mercury (3.5 weeks), Venus (4 weeks), the Sun (4.5 weeks) and Mars (2 months).

The Sun is the most constant in the pack, plodding along at the same speed no matter what the time of year. The Moon’s speed varies at Mercury, Venus and Mars can stay in signs longer during periods of retrogression. However, all of these planets still change signs multiple times in a year.

Not so when it comes to the slower guys. Jupiter takes around a year to switch signs, Rahu and Ketu take roughly 18 months, and Saturn takes 2.5 to 3 years. Therefore, many years do not see them changing signs at all, or maybe only one or two out of the four.

Four planets changing sign in one year is not very common – but what makes 2025 even more unusual in Vedic-astrology terms is that these planets are making the switch at basically the same time. That means a big, possibly disorienting, energetic shift that’s going to stick around for a while.

But more on that later.

When are these planets are changing signs?

Here’s the lowdown for when each planet makes the change:

March 29, 2025: Saturn enters Pisces

May 14, 2025: Jupiter enters Gemini

May 18, 2025: Rahu enters Aquarius and Ketu enters Leo

So, spring is definitely bringing it on this upcoming year!

What this means for you

How strongly you feel the affects of these planetary changes will depend on your particular chart.

For example, the affects may be stronger if you have any planets in Pisces, Gemini or the Aquarius-Leo axis. This means they will be transiting over planets in your chart as they wander into a new house.

If you are running the dasha of any of these four planets, the shifts may also feel more pronounced. The same is true if they are taking a slow stroll through one of the Kendras, houses 1, 4, 7 and 10.

Either way, this will bring changes as these planets will be moving into new houses in your chart and bringing their own personal flavor to their new abode.

To get a feel for what might be ahead, take a look at the house in your chart ruled by Pisces, Gemini, Aquarius and Leo.

Your Pisces house will be Saturn’s hangout soon, which means it can bring delays, restrictions, limitations, hard work, discipline and karmic lessons related to the house topics.

Your Gemini house will be graced by Jupiter, the great benefic and all around nice guy. This can bring good fortune, support, wisdom, growth and expansion to the topics pertaining to the house where it will spread its benevolence for the next year.

Your Aquarius and Leo houses will be dwelling place of the “shadow” planets Rahu and Ketu, aka the North and South node of the moon. This will bring potential instability, ups and downs, shocks and surprises, obsessiveness, creativity, innovation and confusion (=Aquarius/Rahu house) and letting go, loss, aimlessness, detachment and mistakes (=Leo/Ketu house).

April 2025 is going to be a zinger

No doubt about it, April of next year is going to be quite the month both in the collective and people’s personal lives.

This is because Saturn and Rahu are going to be hanging out together for a bit in the Pisces house in your chart.

In Vedic astrology, Saturn and Rahu are both Vāyu, or air planets. When they come together, they can stir up quite the storm.

Rahu has already been shaking things up and bringing change and shock to to the Pisces house in your chart since October 2023. When Saturn enters the stage, bringing his heavy, restrictive nature, a hurricane of anxiety (Rahu) and fear (Saturn) may be spiralling around for those six odd week, causing lots of worry and strain in whatever the house stands for.

If this is the case for you, try not to let the storm clouds and rapid winds send your spiralling. A lot of the pressure will be relieved once Rahu makes the shift into Aquarius, the sign he co-rules, on May 18.

I’ll be writing more about this as we enter the new year, so stay tuned!
