27 Moons Project: Anurādhā Nakshatra
...the key to understanding your mind and the mind of others
In Vedic astrology, the moon is divided into 27 divisions called Nakshatra. The moon is our mind and therefore how we filter all thoughts, impressions and experiences. Knowing our native Moon Nakshatra and the Moon Nakshatras of others is key to understanding and appreciating how we think and approach the world. If you don’t know your Nakshatra, you can find out what it is here. Just look for the name of the Nakshatra your moon is in by scrolling down to the list. If I haven’t written about your Moon Nakshatra yet, I will in the future, so stay tuned!
For the next half a year (or however long it takes), I’ll be writing a post about the current Nakshatra of the moon every Monday, the day naturally ruled by the moon.
If you don’t know what Nakshatra are or why they matter, check out this post first.
For now, let’s dive into the Nakshatra the moon is currently in this lovely Monday.
This Monday’s Nakshatra: Anurādhā
Anurādhā Nakshatra is the seventeenth Nakshatra in the Vedic lunar zodiac, spanning from 3°20' to 16°40' of Scorpio. It is governed by Saturn.
The name Anurādhā means “a following success” or “subsequent victory,” symbolizing devotion, discipline, and the ability to work harmoniously within groups. It is pronounced “Ah-noo-rah-dha” and sometimes spelled Anuradha.
To understand the psyche of individuals with their moon in Anurādhā Nakshatra, let's explore its symbols, deity, and overarching themes.
Symbols
Anurādhā Nakshatra has three symbols associated with it. The first, is the lotus flower.
The lotus flower is a survivor. Born in the mud, it struggles it way to the surface and emerges, pure and sparkling. This speaks to strength and resilience of those with their moon in Anurādhā Nakshatra. The moon is debilitated in Scorpio, which can bring these people more than their fair share of hardship and obstacles. They may also have a challenging relationship with their mother.
However, Anurādhā natives are courageous and pure-hearted. They face challenges head on and have the power to attain harmony and balance in their lives despite their struggles.
Another symbol in the triumphal archway. Those with their moon in Anurādhā are natural leaders. Their friendly demeanor makes them great at building networks and bringing people together.
The third symbol is a gateway decorated with flowers. Anurādhā natives are avid travellers who enjoy “walking through the gate” and engaging with cultures or environments much different than their own. In fact, many with their moon in this Nakshatra find success far from the place they were born.
Ruling deity
When it comes to Nakshatras, knowing the ruling deity gets you closer to understanding their inner nature than the sign they are in.
Anurādhā Nakshatra is ruled by Mitra, one of the twelve Ādityas (solar deities) and a god of friendship, harmony and divine alliances. Mitra embodies the qualities of loyalty, cooperation and balance. Therefore, those born under Anurādhā have a natural ability to foster relationships and create unity in diverse groups. Under Mitra’s influence, Anurādhā promotes deep connections, trust and diplomacy.
Mitra’s mythology is tied to the principles of light, order and the sacred bonds between people, much like the celestial balance that maintains the cosmos. This energy empowers the Anurādhā native to navigate the intricacies of human interaction, offering a deep understanding of both the individual and collective needs. There is a strength in seeking balance and nurturing bonds, which allows them to be powerful mediators and peacemakers.
Those with their moon in Anurādhā often excel in building and sustaining friendships and partnerships. They possess a magnetic charm that draws others towards them, with a natural warmth and openness that fosters trust. Mitra’s influence encourages these natives to build harmony and strive for unity, whether in personal relationships or larger social groups. Their ability to balance compassion with structure makes them both dependable and inspiring to others.
Skills and interests
No doubt about it, friendship is one of the driving forces in the lives of those with their moon in Anurādhā Nakshatra. They have an empathic nature as well as the knack for getting along with people from all walks of life.
However, this does not mean that these people are necessarily outgoing social butterflies with hundreds of friends and acquaintances.
As I’ve already mentioned, Scorpio is not an easy sign for the moon to be in. Difficult life experiences may lead Anurādhā Nakshatra natives to feel overly vulnerable, which means they may be initially guarded and distant. Although they may only allow a select few into their inner friendship circle, these are their ride-or-die friends who they stick by and support through thick and thin. However, because friends are so important them, they can sometimes tend to be possessive.
Anurādhā natives often have pronounced fine motor skills, which means they excel at tasks that call for precision or attention to fine details.
That said, unless they have other combinations in their chart that speak to creative or artistic talents, these people are usually more logical-yet-intutive thinkers drawn to mathematical subjects.
This could be more technical and/or subjects, like engineering, data science or finance, or occult subjects involving numbers/math, like numerology, astrology or Kabbalah. Either way, their natural curiosity and ability to think outside the box can make them true innovators in their field.
Charismatic and caring, Anurādhā natives have a straightforward and agreeable personality. They are genuinely interested in others and not ones to lose themselves in petty office politics. Therefore, they are often shine in leadership roles.
